The new way technology can help around the home

(NC) We all need some help, sometimes. Using technology to take care of a task isn’t lazy, it’s efficient. People live busy, demanding lives, which is why we created labour-saving devices in the first place. What continues to change is just what that technology’s capable of:

It’s a meaningful time saver. As anyone who’s done laundry by hand can tell you, modern appliances are real time-savers. But they’re also still continuously improving. To do laundry with a standard washer and dryer, for instance, you need to time out two chores, not just one, since clothes need to move quickly to the dryer to avoid potential mildew buildup.

But a combo washer-dryer eliminates that step, meaning you can just put a load in and walk away. Some washer-dryers, like the one from Samsung’s Bespoke AI line, eliminate the usual drawback of the system—a longer cycle—and can complete a load in as little as 98 minutes. It can also automatically sense how big and dirty the load is, and adjust accordingly.

Your appliances can take on more than they used to. It takes physical work to run a home, but it also takes a significant mental load. Smart appliances are now able to take on some of that brain work, freeing up users in ways they haven’t been before. In a smart home, your thermostat can adjust based on your schedule, saving you energy by reducing use when you’re not home. A smart fridge can keep track of what you have in stock, and even help suggest recipes or let you know when something’s going to expire.

Connecting devices together in a smart ecosystem, like Samsung’s SmartThings, lets your home operate as one environment, not a bunch of different appliances. Technology is letting households live with less stress and friction at home, saving time and mental load.
